Spring is a beautiful time to take a walk at an Omaha treasure. Heron Haven might be small, but there is plenty to photograph. Join us!

Heron Haven (just off 120th and Maple in Omaha) is a small but beautiful location for photography. We'll find Herons, flowers, paths, insects, turtles, and more.

Instructor Jerred Z will give some great tips for photography during our walk, and others are encouraged to chime in with tips of their own.

We will start off at 5 pm at the front entrance as a group to introduce ourselves, discuss goals, and talk about the possibilities at the reserve. This is a great opportunity to ask specific questions and get hands-on help from Jerred, who will be there to support you.

We will walk as a group, making stops at the Butterfly Garden, the boardwalk, and several observation points. As we photograph we will share ideas and have conversations about photography in this type of setting.

Free Lens Rental

Bring your ticket to Rockbrook Camera on the day of the event to receive a free lens rental for the event (all lenses must be returned the following day or you will need to pay the rental fee). This time of the year is great for telephoto lenses at Heron Haven, but macro or wide-angle lenses could work too. If you are looking for suggestions on lens rentals, ask the instructor, Jerred Zegelis by emailing: learning@rockbrookcamera.com.

To learn more about Heron Haven, check out their website here: http://www.heronhaven.org/

After the event we will share 3-5 photos each of us took through email so we can all see the amazing photographs taken!

Topics Covered:

  • Photo Composition
  • Photography Equipment for Photographing Nature.
  • Everyone is encouraged to ask questions about their cameras and lenses, getting help from the instructor and others in the group.

Who Should Take This Class?

Anyone! This is for any photographer, from beginners to professionals, who wants to get together, take pictures, meet new people, and have fun. The power in these “Photo Adventures” is in the community we form while taking on the challenge of seeing things in new ways. This is powerful for any photographer.

Required Materials

  • Bring your camera and lenses, fully charged and ready to go.
  • Watch the weather for what kind of shoes and clothing to wear!

NOTE: The walking is not difficult, but the ground can be uneven, and hiking shoes are recommended.

*Attendees will be invited to the Rockbrook Camera EDU Facebook Group for continued education, conversation, and community exclusive to Rockbrook Camera EDU students and instructors. It's a safe place to share, learn and grow!
